A home is considered to be one of the most precious components of ones life. Without it a person would have nowhere to return to after a hard days work. So it is very important that ones home is always kept protected from both internal as well as external threats.
Today home security is becoming a rising concern for individuals because crime rate is rapidly increasing. Criminals are on the loose and they spend their time checking out the neighborhood for potential targets to break and enter into. The number of break-ins and robberies that have been reported has steadily been increasing.
People today are scared that their homes can be broken into and valuables stolen at any time. What is even worse is that since their home is not secured from danger, their family members are in a vulnerable position at all times.
Once an individual avails of a good home security system, he will be able to enjoy peace of mind at all times as his family members and valuables will be safe at all times. ADT home security system provide homes with multi-layered protection. The home security system consists of a security surveillance camera that monitors the perimeters of the house at all times. Motion sensors are installed at all entry points of the house as well as throughout the house.
Most burglars think of entering homes through the windows. Merely shutting the windows tight or locking them is not going to be enough to repel these intruders. However, when individuals avail of ADT home security systems, intruders will get caught as soon as they enter the house due to the presence of motion sensors present all throughout the house.
However, as soon as an intrusion is sensed an ear piercing alarm will be let out that immediately alert the individuals at home as well as the neighbors. In addition the police will also be immediately alerted about the intrusion and help will be dispatched right away.
ADT home security systems are made in such a way that they do not only protect individuals homes from external danger but from internal danger as well. ADT home security system safeguard homes from fire, carbon monoxide emissions and they monitor changes in temperature as well as floods.
In this way they help to ensure that the house is not destroyed due to internal factors. While one is away or busy fire could easily break out and spread all throughout the house and in the process destroy life and property. Carbon monoxide emissions could lead to death of members inside the home if undetected and ADT home security systems ensure that these emissions never go undetected.
Damage to property and household valuables could also occur due to floods but ADT home security systems provide 24/7 monitoring of home and immediately notify household members as well as the fire department as soon as any such changes are detected.
Once a person avails of ADT home security systems, they can rest assured that their home is safe from both internal as well as external dangers.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) ? Rescuers continued to search Indonesian waters Thursday for people reported missing after a ferry collided with another ship and sank, with officials fearing some were trapped in cars on the wrecked vessel.
At least eight people were killed in Wednesday's accident, most likely drowning after jumping into the sea without life jackets, said Heru Purwanto, an official at Bakauheni port on southern Sumatra.
More than 210 passengers and crew were rescued in the hours after the accident, but an unknown number are feared missing.
The ferry manifest listed 213 passengers and crew and 78 vehicles on the ferry, but manifests are often unreliable in Indonesia because tickets are sold onboard to passengers who are never registered.
The search for survivors was continuing after many family members came forward to report the names of missing loved ones.
Some passengers were believed to be inside vehicles parked on the ferry when it sank, said Budi Harto, who heads the local disaster management agency in Lampung province. He said divers were facing a difficult task due to the location of the wreck, which was in waters as deep as 90 meters (295 feet).
The other ship in the accident was not seriously damaged. Singapore-based Norgas Carriers Pte. Ltd. said in a statement that the propylene chemical the ship was carrying did not leak and there was no pollution caused by the accident.
The accident happened about 40 minutes into the ferry's 90-minute journey between Java and Sumatra islands.
The ferry sank 20 minutes after the captain sent a distress signal, but that was enough time to allow 10 merchant ships sailing nearby to immediately start rescuing passengers and crew, Purwanto said.
More than 80 passengers were hospitalized with injuries, including at least one in critical condition.
Ferries are a major source of transportation in Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago nation, with more than 17,000 islands and a population of 240 million. Sea accidents are common due to overcrowding and poor safety standards.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) ? Disruptions to South Africa's key mining sector increased as AngloGold Ashanti said Wednesday that strikers have halted all its operations in the country, which provide 32 percent of the multinational's gold production.
Strikes demanding higher salaries began at a Lonmin Platinum mine Aug. 10 and have spread to several others in the mining sector vital to Africa's largest economy. Anglo American Platinum workers have been striking for weeks. The labor unrest moved Monday to the transport sector with a major union saying 20,000 road freight employees are demanding a 12 percent pay rise.
AngloGold Ashanti spokesman Alan Fine said strikers prevented Tuesday's night shift from starting at the company's West Wits and Vaal River operations. They joined co-workers who downed tools at AngloGold's Kopanang mine on Sept. 20.
Fine said strikers, who are among 36,000 workers at the three sites, have not yet made demands.
Hundreds of Anglo American Platinum Mine workers gathered at the Bleskop stadium near Rustenburg on Wednesday to discuss the new terms they've given Amplats. Workers yesterday met with mine management and said they now demand a monthly take home pay of 12,500 rand ($1,560). Strike leader Gaddafi Mdoda said that the company will have seven days to respond, and the strikes will continue.
Amplats called the strikes illegal in a statement released Wednesday, and threatened disciplinary action for employees who "persist in unlawful strike action" on Thursday.
"We have repeatedly urged our employees to come back to work and I do so again," said Chris Griffith, CEO of Anglo American Platinum. "Our Rustenburg mining operations are under considerable economic pressure and their future is already under review."
Anglo American Platinum is the world's largest producer of the precious metal used in jewelry and to reduce carbon emissions of high-end vehicles.
Police were on standby at the stadium.
Mining is a crucial sector in the South African economy. South Africa produces 75 percent of the world's platinum and is the No. 4 chrome producer and the fifth-biggest gold producer. South Africa produces 7 percent of the world's production of gold.
The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union said in a Wednesday statement that industrial action will be consolidated "to ensure that the employers start feeling the heat and return to the negotiations table."
Vincent Masogo of SATAWU said that at least 1,000 started marching in South Africa's eastern port city of Durban, and gatherings will continue in Johannesburg. He said they have called on workers to refrain from violence. Strikers on Tuesday threw stones at trucks driving by.
The transport union said there are no talks at the moment, and they hope the unrest will spread until a deal is reached.
"We intend to ignite further sympathy and solidarity strikes from our members in sectors such as maritime and freight rail in an effort to ensure that no goods and parcels move till the road freight workers' demands are fully met," the statement said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New U.S. single-family home sales eased in August but held near two-year highs and prices vaulted to their highest level in more than five years, adding to signs of a broadening housing market recovery.
The Commerce Department said on Wednesday sales slipped 0.3 percent to a seasonally adjusted 373,000-unit annual rate. July's sales pace was revised up to a 374,000-unit pace, the highest level since April 2010, from the previously reported 372,000 units.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast sales at a 380,000-unit rate last month. Compared to August last year, new home sales were up 27.7 percent.
Despite the month-on-month dip in sales, the report was consistent with other data that have suggested a turn-around in the housing market after collapsing in 2006 and igniting the 2007-09 recession.
Home resales surged last month and homebuilder sentiment jumped to a six-year high in September. However, the housing market recovery lacks sufficient strength to take the baton from manufacturing as the main driver of the economic recovery.
The Federal Reserve moved this month to bolster the economy, announcing it would buy $40 billion in mortgage-backed securities per month until the outlook for employment improved significantly.
Last month, the median price of a new home increased a record 11.2 percent to $256,000 -- the highest level since March 2007. Compared to August last year, the median sales price jumped 17 percent, the largest rise since December 2004.
The inventory of new homes on the market held near record lows last month. At August's sales pace it would take 4.5 months to clear the houses on the market, unchanged from July.

?Bumflower? combines a massive groove beat with looped vocals and plenty of electronic touches, and Ko?s lead vocal cuts through like a siren - albeit a rather thought-provoking, nerve-calming siren. Keyboards and guitars bubble along to the club-worthy electronic drums, and the mix (provided by JB from Queen Size Studio) is impeccable: instruments and little cut-up vocal samples swirl around like a soft tornado of beautiful sound, blending perfectly in unexpected ways. There are some hard-panned cuts in the beat near the end of the song that sound incredible on headphones.
?Plant Me Right Back? is another Ko favorite for me, even in its less sprawling recorded form. At shows, many of Ko?s songs take on an entirely different life: built on more looping and live-jamming principles, the music breathes and changes, seeming more free to wander wherever it may. But this recording is somewhat more subtle, reflecting an admiration for what could easily be called ?non-western? or ?world music? forms and scales. The polyrhythmic hand drums and overdubbed harmony vocals transport the listener to a gorgeous sonic realm, more focused on spiraling rhythms and shifting layers than storytelling or pop songcraft. ?Plant Me Right Back? transitions seamlessly into ?I Will Run While It?s Dark,? which features otherworldly vocal loops backing a fantastic lead vocal melody. It?s pleasant, confrontational, gently jarring, and stunningly beautiful - and then it?s over just as quickly.
?
I also salute Ko as a female musician, and I hope that her expanding popularity as an artist will encourage other creative and talented women to actively participate in the local independent music scene. There are definitely a lot of women making music in the local scene, some of which are unfairly ignored for sure, but there are undeniably more men, and they seem to always get the most attention. I?ll admit to my own bias in listening to music that is primarily made by dudes, but when the music is this original and interesting, it reminds me of the spirit shared by some of the great women of rock and roll history: Bjork, Patti Smith, Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday. There are of course tons of other influences in Ko?s music - male and female - and I imagine not everyone will hear the ones I mentioned in her music. But I appreciate her daring spirit and commanding presence both onstage and in her recordings, and she seems to belong to a deeper tradition of females making brilliant, unique music. That said, pay attention to Ko; she is doing great things and going important places.

Clopton Capital, a commercial real estate finance firm that offers commercial mortgages and loans for income producing properties nationwide, announces the opportunity for commercial real estate owners and operators to lock in historically low interest rates for non-recourse loans.
Over the past couple weeks, treasury rates have dipped to extremely low levels that are offering borrowers the opportunity to refinance and acquire commercial real estate at extremely low rates for non recourse loans. Non recourse loans are based off of treasury rates, so the lower the treasury rates go, the lower the rates go as long as the spread charged to borrowers doesnt change. Eligible property types would include multifamily, office, retail centers, hospitality, and industrial properties. We are looking to provide financing for a diverse range of property types. Loan amounts range from $ 1 million up to as high as $ 50 million and we are seeing rates dip into the low 4%s for strong properties, says Jake Clopton, founder. The best way to learn more about these loan options is to contact a loan officer by calling 866-647-1650.

NEW YORK (AP) ? The United States and Egypt sought Monday to repair ties strained severely by a year-and-a-half of rapid change in the Middle East, culminating in the last two weeks with Egyptian demonstrators overrunning the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and President Barack Obama candidly remarking that the two countries were now neither enemies nor allies.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke with Egypt's new Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi, in a New York hotel on Monday night, the highest-level meeting between the once stalwart Middle East partners since an American-made video ridiculing Islam prompted violent Egyptian protests on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. American officials said their discussions sought to strengthen a relationship that both see as vital.
They particularly emphasized the importance of ensuring the security of diplomatic installations, said a senior U.S. official, who wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the private meeting and requested anonymity. Morsi was criticized for his slow, initial response to the protests that ended with vandalism of the embassy and the American flag torn down, but the official stressed that U.S. officials see the Egyptian government's protection since as reassuring.
Morsi assured Clinton that embassy protection was "Egypt's duty," the official said.
The meeting occurred amid a jam-packed schedule for Clinton in New York, where she is attending this week's annual gathering of the U.N. General Assembly and speaking with a host of world leaders. Egyptian hopes of a maiden meeting between Morsi and Obama were dashed when the White House announced that the president would not be participating in bilateral meetings during his brief stay in the city. Obama arrived Monday and will leave Tuesday.
Shortly after the Cairo protests, Obama appeared to express his dismay with Egypt's handling of the situation. In an interview with Spanish-language network Telemundo, he said: "I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy."
The nature of the U.S.-Egyptian relationship wasn't under question in Clinton's meeting with Morsi, said the U.S. official, who said that officials for the two countries see relations as having have moved past the place they were only 12 days ago.
Clinton and Morsi also spoke about improving security in the Sinai Peninsula near Israel's border and helping the Egyptian economy, officials said.
Extremist activity has grown in the Sinai since last year's political upheaval, which ended with the ouster of longtime U.S. ally Hosni Mubarak. The volatile region, which links Egypt's borders with the Gaza Strip and Israel, has become increasingly lawless. In a brazen attack in August, unidentified militants killed 16 Egyptian soldiers.
Clinton stressed the need for Egypt to improve communications with its neighbor Israel, the official said.
The neighbors established a close counterterrorism partnership under Mubarak, but relations have dipped since. Members of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood have expressed skepticism about the merits of Egypt's three-decade old peace treaty with Israel, and the Jewish state has viewed with great suspicion the political rise of Morsi and other hardline Islamists.

New life sciences investor Lightstone Ventures is planning to raise at least $200m for its debut fund, it is understood.
The vehicle will concentrate on early-stage therapeutics, Reuters reported.
Lightstone was formed earlier this year by the general partners and other members of Advanced Technology Ventures and Morgenthaler Ventures, which both span out their respective life sciences and health teams.
The duo said they created the new firm ?to capture the upside of investing in breakthrough life science companies during a time of unique opportunity in the space.?
Morgenthaler was recently among a string of investors to take part in a $30m financing round for high blood pressure therapy company Kona Medical.

John and Margaret Toor, residents of California, own a five-bedroom single-family residence on Lake Champlian?s Grand Isle, Vermont. The Toors purchased the property in 2001 and used it to entertain guests, friends, and family members. To defray the taxes and maintenance costs on the property, the Toors in 2009 began renting the home for short periods in the summer and fall for periods as short as two nights and as long as two weeks. The Toors charged rent for use of the home, plus a nine-percent Vermont Rooms and Meals Tax, and permitted groups renting the home to use it ?in substantially the same way? they used it ? for vacations, birthday and anniversary celebrations, and entertaining.
The Town of Grand Isle Zoning Administrator issued a notice of violation to the Toors in September 2009, claiming the rental of the property was a change in use to either a bed and breakfast, a rooming and boarding house, or a hotel or motel without a permit. While most of these uses are permitted in the zone where the house is located, operation of a hotel or motel is not. For those reasons, Grand Isle officials demanded that the Toors cease renting out their property and apply for the necessary permits for a change in use from single-family home to bed and breakfast or rooming and boarding house.
The Toors appealed to the Development Review Board (DRB), which upheld the Zoning Administrator?s actions on a different basis, finding that rental of the house to individuals who were not a family meant that the house was no longer being used as a single-family dwelling. Since the Town bylaws define a family, for dwelling purposes, as ?one or more persons living as a household unit, but not including individuals or groups occupying rooming and boarding houses, clubs, motels or hotels,? and since the tenants of the Toor house did not fit this definition of family, the rental of the home was in violation of the Town bylaw, since it was a use different from the single-family use approved for the property. The DRB stated that it made no difference whether the Toors? rental of the property changed the use to a bed and breakfast, a hotel or motel, or any other specific use; so long as its use was no longer as a single-family dwelling, it was a change in use for which a permit was required.
The Toors appealed the DRB?s determination to the Vermont Superior Court, Environment Division. On cross-motions for summary judgment, the court held in the Town?s favor, but based its decision on an entirely new rationale, finding that the zoning bylaws at issue were unambiguous in defining a single-family dwelling, which does not include income-producing short-term rentals of the property. The Environment Division said the proper inquiry in this case was strictly whether the character of the tenants? occupancy was use as a single-family dwelling ? which the court held it was not. Since the Toors had changed the use of their property from residential to commercial ? an income-producing short-term rental ? without obtaining a permit for a change in use, the Toors had violated Town bylaws.
On appeal by the Toors from the Environment Division holding, the Vermont Supreme Court first held that there was nothing about the house itself, aside from possibly its use, which violated the Town laws, since the structure itself ? with a single kitchen, dining area, and living room ? clearly met the definition of a single-family dwelling. The court further held that the use to which the Toors were putting the property when they rented it was essentially the same as the use to which it was put when the Toors used it themselves.
The Vermont Supreme Court then systematically rejected the reasoning advanced by the Town, DRB, and Environment Division for finding a violation by the Toors. First, the Court pointed out that the Town had, throughout the course of litigation, conceded that its original basis for finding a violation ? that the Toors? rental of the house constituted a change in use to a bed and breakfast or rooming and boarding house ? was incorrect. Next, the Court rejected the DRB?s assertion that a violation had occurred because the persons using the house did not fit the definition of single family. The DRB?s interpretation was flawed because it would render the Toors? own use of the property ? allowing non-paying relatives and friends to stay at the house, with the Toors or independently, for short or long periods ? a violation of the Town bylaw. As this was an untenable result, the DRB?s interpretation was rejected.
The Court also rejected the Environment Division?s rationale that the rental of the house changed the use from residential to commercial, in violation of Town bylaws. Given that a commercial use such as a bed and breakfast, rooming or boarding house was permitted in the zone, the Court held there was no reason to imply a prohibition on commercial activity related to single-family uses in the zone, finding that ?it is not the commercial nature of the uses that defines the limits of this zone.?
Faced with no other persuasive basis on which to find a violation of the Town bylaw, the Court held that the Toors? rental of the property was not a change in use. The Court reversed the decision of the Environment Division.

Viral videos can be an enormous help for generating traffic. However, when done correctly, this technique can result in a huge number of visitors and sales.
Giving customers the opportunity to sign up for your Ezine is a highly effective online marketing technique, especially if you know how to create an Ezine that helps you build a relationship with your subscribers. Add personality through photos of yourself, family, and staff. Try adding short humorous inputs about home life and employee relationships. Make sure to put something interesting in the Ezine (this could be any easy or fast way to achieve an important goal) to grab your readers attention and spark their curiosity.
TIP! Close out each customer email with a clear call to action. Things that you could encourage your customers to do might include purchasing a product or service, subscribing to an ezine, or contacting a company.
It?s important for your business that you?re receiving feedback on your brand and on your products. This can be critical to the success of your venture, since others may perceive the looks of your site and the pricing very differently than you perceive them. Accept feedback from your family, clients or peers. Take advice into consideration and make changes as you deem necessary.
Incorporate a ?chat? option within your company website so that visitors can exchange information and interact together. By doing this, you are helping foster community so your business becomes more than a product seller. If you use a group atmosphere, this will ease some of the tensions that consumers have.
Email can be a good marketing tool. Send them messages that have quality content, including updates on products and sales you may have. You want the subscriber to feel like you are providing valuable information to them via email, not spam. Publishing a periodic newsletter or ezine helps you stay in touch with your customers after each sale, and gives them reasons to return for future offers.
TIP! When you look at successful internet marketers, one thing you will find in common is that they carry a high level of enthusiasm for the business. Present your products or services in an enthusiastic manner.
When you offer discounts on products if they spend some money, you will get more hits. You can offer them fifteen percent off if they spend over $100. Many times, shoppers will spend a few extra dollars in order to receive a good deal.

Fear surrounds the idea of performance feedback: leaders are scared about how the receiver will react and employees are afraid of what their bosses will say about them and what impact this will have on their job.
Two of our innate fears?rejection and the unknown? cause many leaders to perform irregular, poorly-handled reviews, and many employees to limit their business growth. People avoid the truth, which leads to procrastination, denial, brooding, jealousy, and self-sabotage.
When it comes to feedback in our organizations today, both leaders and employees dislike the process. But, changes.
You, as a leader, can help those you lead to become better through effective feedback. And, while fear may not be able to completely gotten rid of because it is part of human nature, it can be greatly reduced in the workplace.
Don?t let your culture be one filled with fear?because fear will hold everyone back and act as a barrier to your business success.
What does effective performance feedback look like?
Some companies have learned lessons about their employee review processes by applying research findings about human motivation. When employees aren?t living in fear, they can do their jobs better.
Effective performance feedback will look differently for every company but here are two newer ideas that can help your workplace cut down on fear.
As a leader, these five things can reduce fear about employee feedback
Here is an easy model for giving effective feedback that I train executives to use:
Step 3 is a coaching technique that I encourage all leaders to become proficient at. ?If you incorporate good questioning techniques with your employee interactions you can increase your productivity as they learn to solve their own problems.
?
How will you incorporate one of the above suggestions into the way you handle employee feedback?

Distracting from the news that Arctic sea-ice extent reached a record low on Sept.16 is a widely circulating blog article claiming that at the opposite end of the Earth, Antarctic sea ice is more than making up for the losses.
In the post, climate change skeptic and blogger Steven Goddard states that Antarctic sea ice reached its highest level ever recorded for the 256th day of the calendar year on Sept. 12. He reasons that the Southern Hemisphere must be balancing the warming of the Northern Hemisphere by becoming colder (and thus, net global warming is zero).
The National Snow & Ice Data Center (NSIDC), which tracks sea ice using satellite data, explains on its website why Antarctic ice has weathered global warming?more robustly than Arctic ice. Goddard dismisses the explanation, concluding instead, "Antarctic and Arctic ice move opposite each other. NSIDC's dissonance about this is astonishing."
Despite its lack of scientific support, Goddard's post has garnered attention around the Web. In a Forbes.com column about the record high Antarctic?sea ice, skeptic James Taylor writes, "Please, nobody tell the mainstream media or they might have to retract some stories and admit they are misrepresenting scientific data."
But if anyone had asked an actual scientist, they would have learned that a good year for sea ice in the Antarctic in no way nullifies the precipitous drop in Arctic sea-ice levels year after year ? or the mounds of other evidence indicating global warming is really happening.
"Antarctic sea ice hasn't seen these big reductions we've seen in the Arctic. This is not a surprise to us," said climate scientist Mark Serreze, director of the NSIDC. "Some of the skeptics say 'Well, everything is OK because the big changes in the Arctic are essentially balanced by what's happening in the Antarctic.' This is simply not true." [Former Global Warming Skeptic Makes a 'Total Turnaround']
Projections made from climate models all predict that global warming should impact Arctic sea ice first and most intensely, Serreze said. "We have known for many years that as the Earth started to warm up, the effects would be seen first in the Arctic and not the Antarctic. The physical geography of the two hemispheres is very different. Largely as a result of that, they behave very differently."
The Arctic, an ocean surrounded by land, responds much more directly to changes in air and sea-surface temperatures than Antarctica, Serreze explained. The climate of Antarctica, land surrounded by ocean, is governed much more by wind and ocean currents. Some studies indicate climate change has strengthened westerly winds in the Southern Hemisphere, and because?wind has a cooling effect, scientists say this partly accounts for the marginal increase in sea ice levels that have been observed in the Antarctic in recent decades.
"Another reason why the sea-ice extent in the Antarctic is remaining fairly high is, interestingly, the ozone hole," Serreze told Life's Little Mysteries. This hole was carved out over time by chlorofluorocarbons, toxic chemicals formerly that were used in air conditioners and solvents before being banned. "The ozone hole affects the circulation of the atmosphere down there. Because of the ozone hole, the stratosphere above Antarctica is quite cold. Ozone in the stratosphere absorbs UV light, and less absorption [by] ozone makes the stratosphere really cold. This cold air propagates down to the surface by influencing the atmospheric circulation in the Antarctic, and that keeps the sea ice extensive."
But these effects are very small, and Antarctic sea-ice levels have increased only marginally. In the coming decades, climate models suggest rising global temperatures will overwhelm the other influences and cause Antarctic sea ice to scale back, too.
The extent of Arctic sea ice at its summertime low point has dropped 40 percent in the past three decades. The idea that a tiny Antarctic ice expansion makes up for this ? that heat is merely shifting from the the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern and therefore global warming must not be happening ? is "just nonsense," Serreze said.
