For those of us who grew up on Mr. Rogers, it's difficult to imagine any sort of modernization of the man. In fact, that might have been part of his appeal. Gentleness, patience, an insistence on tolerance and acceptance are not things that necessitate an updating. However, PBS, which brought us "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" from 1968-2001, has poked a hole in that theory. The company partnered with?Symphony of Science's John D. Boswell to create an auto-tuned message about creativity and learning called?"Garden of Your Mind."?
"When we discovered video mash-up artist John D. Boswell, aka melodysheep, on YouTube, we immediately wanted to work together," the?description on the video?on?PBS Digital Studios' YouTube channel?reads. "Turns out that he is a huge 'Mister Rogers? Neighborhood' fan, and was thrilled at the chance to pay tribute to one of our heroes. Both PBS and the Fred Rogers Company hope you like John?s celebration of Fred Rogers? message."
This is the first of several mash-up videos PBS Digital studios and Boswell have planned. We look forward to the others; the bar has been set exceptionally high.
